Ultherapy vs Shurink

The mechanism is the same in both: focused ultrasound delivered at set depths to prompt collagen. The difference is whether the operator can see the layer before delivering energy — and what that is worth for your face.

What imaging actually buys

It lets the operator confirm what lies beneath a given spot before firing — how thick the tissue is, where bone sits, whether previous filler is in the path. That matters most in three situations:

  1. Thin faces, where energy at the wrong depth can leave a hollow look.
  2. Over bone — around the jaw and temple.
  3. Previously treated faces, where material from earlier procedures changes the picture.

For a fuller face with no treatment history, an experienced operator on a non-imaging device may reach a very similar result.

Choose Ultherapy if

  • Your face is thin, or you have had filler or threads in the treatment zone
  • You plan one lifting treatment a year and want it to count
  • You want the depth choice confirmed rather than assumed

Choose Shurink if

  • You are treating early laxity and expect to repeat regularly
  • Comfort matters to you, or a previous ultrasound session was too much
  • You would rather spend the difference on treating skin quality as well

What decides the outcome more than the device

Shot count and coverage. A treatment described only as “full face lifting” tells you nothing — ask how many lines at which depths over which zones. A low price usually means a low count, which is a smaller treatment rather than a better deal.

After that: whether the assessment was honest about your tissue, and whether you wait the full two to three months before judging.

When neither is right

If volume loss is the main change in your face, lifting energy tightens skin over a deflated structure and the result disappoints. If the skin is very lax and hanging, surgery is the comparison. And if your complaint is texture or pores, the answer is in RF lifting with needles or in laser treatments instead.

FAQ

Is Ultherapy simply stronger?

No. Strength is set by energy and depth, which the operator chooses on either device. What Ultherapy adds is visualisation of the tissue, which affects where that energy lands rather than how much of it there is.

Can I have Shurink twice a year instead of Ultherapy once?

Many people do, and for early laxity it is a reasonable rhythm. It is not the same as one deeper treatment, and neither approach is universally better.

Does either work on heavy sagging?

Neither removes skin. For significant laxity the honest comparison is with surgery, and a clinic that promises a facelift result from either device is overselling.

What if I have filler or threads already?

Say so. Existing material changes how energy should be applied, and this is the situation where seeing the layers is most useful.
