Jaw Botox in Korea
Masseter treatment is one of the most requested procedures in Korean clinics, and one where the assessment matters more than the injection. A square lower face can come from muscle, fat or bone, and only the first responds.

What it changes
The masseter is the muscle you feel bulge when you clench your teeth. In people who clench or chew heavily it thickens, which widens the lower face.
Botulinum toxin reduces its activity. Without regular strong contraction the muscle gradually becomes smaller, and the outline of the lower face narrows with it.
Who it suits
| The cause of a wide lower face | Does jaw botox help? |
|---|---|
| Thick masseter muscle | Yes — this is what it treats |
| Fat pads in the lower cheek | No |
| Wide jaw bone | No |
| Sagging tissue along the jawline | No — that is a lifting question |
The assessment is simple: the clinician asks you to clench and feels the muscle. If it does not bulge much, the width is coming from somewhere else, and an honest clinic will say so.
The session
A short examination, then two or three injection points on each side. It takes a few minutes and is usually described as easier than expression-line treatment because the area is less sensitive.
There is essentially no downtime — a small chance of bruising at the injection points.
Timeline
| Chewing feels weaker | 1–2 weeks |
| Visible change | 4–6 weeks |
| Full effect | About 3 months |
| Duration | 6 months or longer |
This is the longest timeline of any botulinum treatment, which matters for visitors: you will be home long before the result appears. Ask for photographs at the clinic so you have a baseline.
Dose and repeat treatments
Dose is described in units per side. Ask for the number and the brand — it is what you compare between visits, and what determines whether a lower price means a smaller treatment.
Most clinics wait three to six months before repeating, and often use a lower dose the second time because the muscle is already reduced.
What it does not do
It does not tighten skin. In someone with existing laxity, reducing muscle volume can make the skin over it look slightly looser, which is why the consultation should look at both. If that is your situation, read the jawline concern page before deciding.
FAQ
How long until my face looks slimmer?
Chewing strength drops within one to two weeks, but the visible slimming follows the muscle shrinking, which takes four to six weeks and continues to about three months.
How long does it last?
Longer than expression-line treatment — often six months or more, because the muscle itself becomes smaller. Repeated treatments tend to last longer still.
Will chewing feel different?
Mild fatigue with hard or chewy food in the first weeks is common and settles. Tell the clinician if you have jaw joint problems, as the plan may change.
Does it help teeth grinding?
It often reduces the force of clenching, which is why the treatment is sometimes used for that reason rather than for appearance. It is not a substitute for dental assessment of the cause.
